Just wanted to know if one was better than the other, I want to make it into a reef, I love the width of the 40B but its kinda short, Love the lenght of the 55G but its not as wide. I really like got2envys 40B but at the same token ive seen some great 55's, Here is what livestock I want to stock.

2 clowns
1 purple firefish
and like 3-5 blue reef chromis.

(overstocked?)

Help me decide what to get.

I am a sucker for width. It just adds more dimension to the tank and aids in making a more interesting reef structure. Length I can compromise, though.

After setting up a reef in my 55, I would say having the extra 6" of width would make it way easier to get a better rockscape. Giving up the extra 15 gal of volume is tough, but I think it would look better. In a 55, you really have to stack the rock straight up the back to leave enough room for viewing up front.

Or you could go with a 75 and get the best of both worlds :D

40 breeder...hands down.

You can't beat the extra width of the tank. I find them good starter tanks for the more photo-sensitive specimens, like the tridacna clams. You don't have to spend a small fortune on the 250 watt + halides you would need for a tall tank...you could get a way with 150 watt HDs.

Im a sucker for the "bigger is better" phrase, althoguh i know this isn't always true. Id still go for the 55G though!

My very 1st salt tank was a 40g breeder. Great tank for corals and plants alike.

Thanks for the input all im going with the breeder!!!!!:y220e:
