Well I got this 1.2watt HOB. Its small and made by the Japanese brand "FivePlan" Its a very good brand that makes good stuff. Its only 1.2watts. How much would my electric bill be raised by if I used this?

Minimal. People don't see a whole lot of change running much larger stuff...

Well considering electricity usage is measured in kilowatts...so that would be 24hx.0012kw = .0288KwH per day, .864KwH per month...at a rough assumed rate of $.10/KwH, that would be an increase of about 8 cents per month. You'd probably save tenfold that if you skip making coffee one day.

8 cents. Wow. So 6watts is rougly 50 cents? Is 30watts $2.50?

give or take, it mainly depends on how much you pay for electricity. I used $.10/KwH, I have no idea if thats what you're actually paying or not.

By turning it off when you're asleep and unable to use it, you'd save at least eight cents a month. No one needs to be 100% accessible 100% of the time, except maybe the president or the pope.

Yea i run my pc 24/7, i think we worked it out that to keep 1 pc on for 24 hours costs about $80c AUD, tanks use less then a computer.

How many watts does an average computer use? I probably don't use as much watts for my tanks as some of you guys. I have about 20-30 watts running.

Kill A Watt, Electricity Usage Monitor....
A computer, monitor and printer consumes about 750 Watts, so one hour of operation in the summer will cost about $.06. Therefore, running your system a couple of hours a day will cost about $3.60 per month. However, if you run the system 24 hours a day, it will cost about $43 per month.

750watts! Thats a lot of electricity! I guess I'll cut down on the computer of awhile. I use an average of 4 hours a day excluding weekends.

My computer alone has a 700W powersupply for the main system and an additional 200W powersupply to run the freezer that cools it. I leave that thing off as much as I can when I am not gaming on it. Speaking of electricity....I shaved $26 off my last bill from my previous bill because I turned my AC up 2-3 degrees. Woot!

...I guess I didn't tell you that I live in the Vatican ;) I have to connect with people on the east and west coasts, 12 and 15 hours behind China...sometimes I get up at 3 in the morning to call someone...plus I am setting my computer up to do some work while I sleep. I really wish i could find some reasonably cheap sensors to put in the big tank (that I hope I will have) and connect them to a p1 which has wireless access to my main computer....sigh...that would be living :)
