Hi everyone!
I cant believe there is a website like this on the net! Its awesome!
I have a question ( or questions!)
I saw coloured glass fish in the aquatic store below my house, they're beautifull!
can i paint/colour my other fish ( guppys and betta) like these? If so, where do I get them from?
I would like to try really BRIGHT COLOURS.
THANKS PEOPLE!

You need to be aware that certain folks in the fish trade condone dyeing fish. They are actually injected with dye in order to tempt buyers new to the practice.
This is animal torture as far as I am concerned. No shop that sells such fish will see a cent of my money.
They may look pretty to you, but now that you know at what price I'm sure you'll choose to pass them up.
Once you more closely explore the world of tropical fish you'll see that nature has done a pretty good job of coloring fish- no need to manhandle and abuse them to enjoy beautiful fishies!

I can't see them dyeing guppies. Fancy guppies are beautiful as it is. I doubt yours are painted, probably natural. It'd be easier to tell if we saw them for ourselves.

Fish that have dye injected into them may look nice but they die VERY fast. I heard that in China a guy managed to breed fish that were injected with glow-in-the-dark dye. Unfortunately these fish only live for a couple of weeks. It's very cruel to do this to fish. Guppies are not usually dyed because they are naturally magnificent. Tetras have been experimented on, so watch out! Stick to well known types such as "neons" "cardinals" etc.. If a species seems "fishy" then check it out on the site to see what they should look like. You don't want to buy pretty fish that are expensive to only enjoy them for a few weeks. Goodluck!
They don't always die fast as I have seen them live for a couple of years in friends tanks, but the chance of that great colour staying as bright is very low. Generally after a few months the colour will fade on them. So even if it wasn't cruel it still doesn't seem like a great fish to buy. If we don't buy them maybe they will stop producing them.

I highly recommend this fish food!
But also use other foods - variety is good...

Yes it is usually tetras. Painted glass tetras. You guys would not beileve that at my one LFS they had a grape barb. Do you know what is was? It was a albino tinfoil barb dyed purple. I couldn't beileve it. I usually don't buy anything there and now I really won't. I agree dying fish is wrong and should be stopped.

you be surprised... http://honors.montana.edu/~weif/firsttank/painted.phtml
I wouldn't say the people on this board are easy to scam.
I would say that there are a lot of people out there who have no idea what there doing or what is involved in keeping fish and the people on this board truely want to help other people and feel that no question is a stupid question. You on the other hand,
may make some of these people think that maybe they should no longer try to educate people in this hobby becouse you and people like you, just want to get a laugh.
And that would be a shame.
