My b/f was looking in the local "Penny Saver" and there was an advertisement for 3 tanks: 20, 40, and 90 gallons for ONLY $300!! This definitely sparked my attention. However, I don't think I can afford to spend 300$ all at once and I don't know what I would do with a 90 gallon tank. I think I will try and get him to sell me the 40 and 20 seperately. Oh yes, I forgot to mention it comes with EVERYTHING: filters, lights! He claims that all these tanks are in good condition as well.
1) Should I believe this deal?
2) How would I go about checking these tanks?
3) Does anyone in the Ottawa area want a 90 gallon tank that they are willing to spend 150$-200$ on??

That is a very good deal for all three tanks plus all the equipment to go with it, if everything is in good condition as he says. For that price there is a pretty good chance that eveything is in good shape, since he may be moving or just be sick of them taking up so much space, and just wants get rid of them. If he was selling them for say $100 or less than I would be suspicious. I would suggest that you go and take a good look at the tanks and the equipment to see if they look to be in good condition. Check the glass for cracks, nicks and scratches and the silicone seals to make sure they are intact. Also another thing you can do to pretty much insure that everything is okay is to ask the guy if he is willing to let you see the tank(s) filled with water and all the equipment running, or better yet if he is willing to let you fill up the tank and try the equipment out at home to make sure that everything is fine and let you return it for a refund if it is not. If it was me I would not buy if he would not be willing to do either of those things. $300 is alot to spend on faulty merchandise.

$300 cdn?

look for cracks, scratches and check the silicone seals. i doubt it will be feasable to fill them and check them for leaks. the 90g alone is worth $100 to $300 american (new), depending on where you buy it and whether or not it's on sale. used, $50 to $150 american....... the extra equipment is just a bonus.

it sounds great tho. maybe they got tired of the hobby?

american? are not canadians american?

the usa is simply the united comglamouration of several states that lie within america. must we be so arrogant to think that we are the only americans? indeed, are not brazilians american? then what must we call ourselves? united statesyins. no, rather, we must call ourselves...well, I guess there really isnt anything better to call ourselves than americans...I guess we'll have to stick with that.

I think he was referring to the currency actually which is, in fact, different throughout the continent, although I'm sure people are glad to accept it. So Canada dollar is like 0.70$ US. So yea, it'd be an especially good deal for Americans.

Chances are ,the guy will have those tanks sold before you get to enquire about them.
If they are in good nick someone is gonna snap them up pretty quickly, at that kind of money.
Cheers.

Interesting point on Americans, however, worldwide people consider people from the US as Americans. I work with people from Europe, Asia and Australia. All refer to the US people as Americans as do several people I work with from Canada (as in Canadian vs American).

Yeah sure its possible, but as already said - they are probably already sold!
I recently brought for AUS$200 - so a bit over $100 for you guys:
85g tank + 45g tank + 25g tank, fluro light for the 85g, hangon filter - big one with powerhead, another powerhead, 3 corner filters, more decorations than those three tanks could hold, 4 fish - two of which are supposed to be really expensive chidlids, 3 heaters (one no good), gravel for the 25g, 3 undergravel filters, miles of tubing and fittings, valves, nets, a double air pump and a huge cabinet for the 85g (which warped and resulted in the 85g cracking :( )
