Help! Snails problem!

Hi! I've recently decided to do a planted tank. It's going good but I have noticed a lot of snails in my 4ft tank. I try to kill them manually when I see them and leave zuchini in the tank. That helps get rid of the big ones but I notice MANY small snails hiding in my hairgrass.

Can someone suggest how else I can get rid of them?

In order to stop this problem recurring, what do I need to do with the new plants BEFORE I put them in the tank?

Thank you!!! :worthy:

Even just rinsing the plants under water helps decrease the snail population.

Ive heard to put a piece of something (somebody help me out here) fruit/veg into the tank, wait a few hours and the snails will be infesting on it, take that out, and keep repeating.

do like what firebelly girl said...
you'll gradually lessen then population.. if you keep doing it, but 100% i dont know

Yeah it might take a while, but I can not think of any other solution than the lettuce one ive read works, and chemicals that could kill the snails could also kill the fish.

haha i have at least 300 baby snails in my 55 and i love them they are fun to watch and i have another 50 on the way. o and i have a puffer that i feed the little guys to.

WTF man !??!?! I have been trying to breed snails since january and I cant!! you do it on accident???!!!

Why do you want to breed snails? I can understand if they are apple snails. But these aren't. Mine are small snails that came with the plants when I bought them. I was too lazy to give the plants a good clean and now they are breeding in the tank.
