I have a pair of angels in a 30G cube tank that have been a happily mated pair producing spawns every 7 days like clockwork. They had a new spawn that just hatched into wigglers this morning and all was well until I just checked in on them. I can't find any of the babies and mom and dad are fighting something fierce. Basically, they are treating each other as they would any other fish that comes near their spawn.

I'm thinking that I need to separate them. I know angels typically become monogous, but how often do they split up?

Angel pairs are known to do this at times, I would try a divider. This way they can see each other, and are aware of each other in the same tank, without causing any injuries.

Something may have startled one of them, making them think the spawn was in danger. The divider will give them a little time out without actually splitting them up. I would pull the divider once they look a little tubey, and see how they behave towards each other. This is something you want to do when you have a chance to stick around and observe them for a while, or be able to check up on them on a regular basis.

Update - they're both pretty torn up, but they seem to be tolerating each other again.

I'm wondering if dad didn't watch the kids and they got eaten, causing mom to go into a rage...

I would do 50% water changes daily for a few days, and med with melafix. This should give the fins a good jump on healing, fins heal fast with fresh water.

Thank you!

They didn't seem to do any fin damage - they are veiled/striped angels and have long scratches on their sides (not through the scales, fortunately). They're lips look the worst - their all white and worn from the lip locking.
