I have a question about cleaning my Fluval for the first time, it came with Fluval Carbon, foam blocks and Bio Max bio-media. I plan on leaving the Bio Max and foam blocks alone (rinse them in tank water if they need it). I have 2 baskets using the carbon, I would like to swap one out for regular, cheap filter floss and in the other place Marineland Diamond Blend ( I have a ton of it). Does this sound reasonable, I'm not sure I can/should use the floss and Diamond blend. Tank is a 20g hex with 3 serpae tetras and 2 bleeding hearts, it is cycling now (3 weeks in). I guess I should not even touch the filter until the cycle is over, right?

Hey,
I have a 304 and a 404. I don't use carbon because I have plants. The only thing I do when I change the water is clean everything. I did use the peat moss pellets for awhile but I found Black Water Expert to be better.

I wouldn't change the foam or the biomax, but I'd get rid of the carbon and go ahead with the filter floss. I use polyfiber floss in the 2 bottom media baskets in my 304.
