Now that my tank fully cycled (woot) I decided to add my next member, 1 snail. Thing is the guy said it was an albino mystery snail, uh huh, sure.

This guy also told me to throw out my test kits :hypnotized: , Not going to happen. But its kinda hard to argue since his fish are so nice looking, and water quality is great.

He is a striped mystery snail.. I can't tell the exact color from the pic though.
I found the pic here:http://www.thesnailstore.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=40

Blanched Romaine lettuce, broccoli stems and spinach.
Algae wafers, fish food, dead fish and dead plants, most sinking pellets and algae. they eat just about anything.. lol
also put cuttle bone in the water for his or her shell (to keep it strong).
GL with the baby ;)

I noticed that the above site said that snails need a ph of 7.0 or higher, is that true. If so I need to raise the PH quite a bit, its at 6.2-6.4
P.S, it is 1" in diameter.

Acidic PH causes shell damage.

Yes raise your PH level. Also add calcium as a PH buffer (crushed coral, cuttle bone, etc...). Frequently it is difficult to stabilize ph levels without using a buffer.

so how do I go about raising the ph? and my alkalinity is zero, when I first started it was around 30 or so.

Sure, he's a "mystery snail," but that's something like saying what breed of dog do I have? Oh, he's a brown dog. :p: It's accurate, but not... specific.
Your snail is a 'brig' - a Pomacea Bridgesii. You can find absolutely every piece of information you need on taking care of them, how to determine what sex you have, what water parameters they need, etc, at:
applesnail.net
You'll want to look at the 'care' section.
If you check out the "discussions" section of the site, you'll find the forums. They are extremely helpful.

Mystery snail is specific enough, only Pomacea bridgesii still carries that as a common name.

I suppose you're right on that, but in any given LFS, a "mystery snail" could be bridgesii, canaliculata, haustrum... I and my friends have seen all three. Knowing the species is just a good way of being certain.

Luckily, none of my LFS makes that mistake. Didn't think many would. I can see your point, one wouldn't want a canas ripping through their plants.

LFS around here are notoriously dumb. There's only one that's really reputable, everything else is a Petsmart or a Petco. Although I do have to give credit where credit is due, Petco now has a poster in the store with the names of their aquatic employees as well as how long they've been working in the department. They seem to be pretty knowledgeable now. And I hear that Petsmart is starting to put species names on the tags for each fish. Maybe they're actually listening to our complaints. We'll see.
