Hi,

I am from the Oklahoma City Metro and I am having a really hard time finding a place to order certain ciclids I want without having to pay an arm and a leg for. Can anyone out there from around my area who has a similar situation to mine, help me find a way to get these specific types of fish for my tank? I am looking for 4 fish and they are:2 Pseudotropheus demasoni, 2 Julidochromis transcriptus "Gombi", Neolamprologus cylindricus, and maybe 1 more shell dweller if anyone has any ideas. I sure would appreciate anyone's time in helping me find a solution. Thanks for your time.

Gratefully,

Charlie

I know this is kind of old, but if you're still looking they've got the demasoni, cylindricus and some shelldwellers at Aquarium Concepts on MacArthur in OKC. I think they were in the $12-$16 range.

For that matter, I've got 8 or 9 F1 Neo. multifasciatus I'd sell for $5 each, I've also got 4 cylindricus (about 2") that I'd sell $10 each.

A couple others I have are leleupi "firecracker" and Neo. olivaceous (sort of like brichardi). Mostly around 1" for $5 each. I'm going to the TCA auction in October, they've usually got some interesting cichlids down there (DFW) for pretty reasonable costs.

Yeah, me and the wife are from Oklahoma and she will be dragging me back there. You can bet your @$$ you'll never see an ACA convension of anykind there. I'm not looking forward to moving back when her 4yr military duty is up. The best spot to find cichlids unfortunantly........Petsmart.

There's actually a couple of places with good cichlids, Aquarium Concepts and another shop that I won't go to because I can't stand the SOB that works there.

I go to Dallas once and awhile and they've got a few shops down there plus the TCA conventions/auctions twice a year. I've heard Dallas is in the running for the 2005 ACA, but you're right, another ACA isn't likely to come to Oklahoma. It's just too big now. I heard they had one a long time ago (60's?) in OKC, back when ACA was still pretty small.

The local aquarium association (OKCAA) is growing pretty fast, but it's a general interest club, not just cichlids. Our yahoo group has 50 members and the club itself has been picking up 2-4 members a month this year. Pretty fast growth for a small club.

I sent you a PM on the SOB.

Aquarium Concepts
4850 N MacArthur
Warr Acres, OK
405-789-1666

Warr Acres is really inside of OKC. Take I-40 West, turn North on MacArthur and start keeping an eye out on the right side of the street after you pass NW 39th. I think there's a Pizza Inn on the corner where you turn into their parking lot and there's definitly a traffic light there. If you pass NW 50th, just back up a half block or so and you'll be there.

I can't recommend the quality of AC highly enough. I've been using the shop for at least 8 years and I've always gotten high quality, healthy fish from them. It's mostly Malawi and Tanganyika for cichlids, but they also sell the usual angels, discus and usually a couple of other CA/SA species. I've bought Apistogrammas in there before, too.
