I have an empty 20 gallon tank, gravel, hood with light , I will buy a back filter and heater for it soon . tell me what I need to do to have a nice shrimp tank, and can I add a guppy or two? Do I need live plants? if so what kind for a low light aquarium plants? I think my boys would flip for a cherry shrimp tank!
Also how many can I have, do they breed well, and whats the life expectancy?

Here's a link to an excellent site with lots of good information on keeping shrimp.

Good luck with your shrimp!

I'm not sure about the shrimp, but for plants that have low-light demands, onions, banana plants, and hornwort are great. I have 2 onions, a banana plant (that had one leaf and stem grow about 18 inches in less than a week), and lots of hornwort (planted and free floating). I have all that with less than a watt per gallon.

i would use a sponge filter. its not really hard. plants are a plus. its a really easy tank to set up i think.
