painting your tank

I wish I could be bit more specific.. but i used some primer spray paint that you use on cars.. I got it at homedepot. A friend of mine suggested it as it is easy to use and very likely to stay on glass. Is your tank glass or acrylic? I wonder if that makes any difference.

I knew that I wanted to stick with one color from the beginning so I used this paint, but I'm also aware that I'm probably stuck with it forever. I heard there are just regular oil based paints that you can scratch off in the future if you wanted to.

Yes it is a spray paint. I wiped the glass with lacquer thinner first and then shot one light coat. Looks perfect. From my experience from painting cars, you can also just use windex to clean the glass of any grease or silicone residue if you don't have any lacquer thinner. Ofcourse no paint will stick very well to a slippery non porous surface like glass unless it is etched first but we're not really worried so much about durability in this case.

is that sray paint? I'm curious cause im gunna paint my tank this week since im moving and i'll get the chance..

Regular gloss paint....just remember, if used, dont get it on any silicon....It will errode silicon over a short peiod of time, and then well....am sure you can imagine the consequences...]

Don't be scared. You're back glass overlaps the sides so no paint hit the silicon joint.

uh... i didn't get it on any silicone on the inside of the tank.... its only on the outside... but there are still seams where silicone is holding the glass together...

this might not be good...

now im scared...

My main reason is not to scare, but to make people aware, as a lot of people have their tanks drilled at the back, and use silicon to seal the bulkheads correctly....I always believe that people should know about all aspects regarding a task, good and bad...
