Some quick questions, I'm a little nervous :)

1) I am using Goldex Household Ammonia. I've read some post stating people have use it with good results. Just making sure it's still considered good :) (Has no Phosphates or fragrances, and does not fiz when shaken.)

2) I have ordered live plants from aquariumplants.com. They won't be here until about Sept. 4th. Can I start the fishless cycle today, then add the plants (and real driftwood.) on the 4th safely (not killing any bacteria or harming any plants.?

3) Is the Hagen Carbonate Hardness & Total Hardness Test Kit any good, or should I go with a different brand. (Not really related to fishless cycling, but... :)

As always, I thank you all in advance.

Just make sure its pure ammonia with no detergents

Goldex is great, it's the one I used.

You can add plants at any time, but it might slow down the cycle, since they will be using the stuff that the bacteria would be otherwise eating. It will probably work, you just might have to dose more often to keep ammonia levels readable. If you have enough plants, you might be able to do whats called a silent cycle, and add fish when you add plants, and just stock slowly.

Don't know anything about the Hagen test kits, I use the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals master kit which came with GH and KH tests.
