I am going to try to install a pond! I just ordered a kit from ebay. It has a 20x20 liner, 2600 gph pump, a skimmer, and a filter (that I plan the output of to be my waterfall). It states that it also comes with the tubing and fittings needed.

I was planning on making the pond about 10x8x3 and have enough liner left over to manage the waterfall. I want to dig a few shelves into the pond as well.

I have researched the rock around here also. It will cost me about $250 for a ton of tennessee natural flat rock.

I also plan on adding a UV steralizer later. I will probably run that on its on pump too.

My questions:

Does anyone see any thing I am missing to build a successful koi pond?

Is 1 ton of rock going to be enough to edge a pond that size and build a nice waterfall?

the secret is no cement....

i cant find the link but its best you line the pond walls with rock. bigger rocks at the side and smaller rocks for the base. just build the wall all the way up

the waterfall can be built the same way. with flat rocks at the edge and rounded rocks around

Thanks! I was told that too much rock in the pond could lead to maintenence problems? Any truth to that?

When I built my koi pond, I let it run for a while without a uv sterilizer. Wished I had put one on straight away.
The pond seemed lovely and clear untill about 4 days after I added fish.
What did I get.......thick pea green soup!
Although this should not harm the fish, I could not see them through the algal bloom.
A uv is recommended.:)
