i need to get gravel/sand for my 90 gal and im looking for soem good natural looking stuff preferbly more gravely than sandly but not too samll to dust storm it up when i go water changes also looking for the cheap route...

I use the "all purpose" (maybe it's General purpose) gravel from Home Depot....not found in the garden stuff, but with the concrete. Looks dirty in the bag, but rinse it and you'll find a good looking all natural gravel that has a variety of colors in it. If you can find a spilled bag on the display, take a handfull to the sink/hose and rinse it...you'll see what I mean.

It does need a LOT of rinsing...but it IS natural and cheap. I find rinsing about 10 lbs at a time in a wheelbarrow is way better than doing it in a bucket. About 2-3 bags worth should do your 90...buy 3, they're cheap.

The pic is from my 75G GF tank...about 5 minutes ago. You can see a little bit of white quartz gravel mixed in with mine, I changed it out for this, but didnt get it all out.

...I wish I could get FISH pics this good :)

yea thats not too bad plants grow alright in there or should i splurge on a lights dusting of some eco whatever for teh bottom

You could add some laterite...keep meaning to do that, but never do.

My plants do OK, I add ferts to the water every few weeks, plus planttabs in the gravel.

If you want something finer, but not quite play sand....i bought a few bags of the "A.P." sand (next to the gravel)...it's ~ 3/16" down to dust.

...ran it thru a piece of window screen, and used the big stuff...either by itself or mixed in w/ gravel. added the small stuff to my garden. rinse well, of course...

i got pea gravel from lowes.

yea thanks i'll have to check both those places out

Just don't put white quartz gravel in with your goldfish...unless they promise not to poop on it. That got ugly real quick...and why i changed out the gravel.

If you have a landscape supply that carries a good variety of stones/gravel, you might want to look there, too.

i went to home depot and they just had like rocks..put petsmart had some nice looking ones but 30 bucks for 25 pounds i'd need to spend like 140 on some gravel i'll go to the river and get some .....
