The wife gave me the OK to upgrade from the 20G Long to a 40 Gallon ($1/gallon at Petco sale!!!).

I'd like to put sand as a substrate instead of the little pebbles I currently have. (I'm new to Salt Water...but have a lot of Freshwater experience).

If I put "Live Sand" in the bottom of the new tank (yes, after washing it and letting it settle), then put the Live Rock, then most of the water, then the fish...will this be OK?

(I have plenty of lighting...and I'm overstocked on Live Rock right now so that's not a problem.)

Thanks.

If you buy live sand you don't need to rinse it, you just dump it in.

And if you put it in first, make sure you wiggle your rock down to the bottom of the tank afterwards.

When you put the sand in, it's going to cloud up like mad for a day or two, so you'd probably want to put it in, let it settle, then start the transfer.

:)

Thanks...

Wiggle in the rock to make sure its on the bottom of the tank? Would it be easier to put the rock in THEN put in the sand?

If you can...maybe fill the tank up halfway and place the bottom layer of liverock, then dump in sand, then finish filling the tank to try and minimize clouding it up?

I'll be careful. :)

Thanks.

Sorry...I didn't get the "Subliminal" message. :)
