Just an FYI...be prepared to spend more than you think. :)

People use anything from 12gal up to 100 or more fot their first tank..mainly depends on how much you have to spend, how much space you have, and what you plan on putting in it. I'd go as big as you can afford, money and space wise. Every time I set up a tank, sw or fw, I think man I like it but I wish it was bigger...

Minimum I'd recommend is 40 gallon breeder or a 55 long. However with that said, I went with a 55g long for my first and it was less than a month before I wish I had bumped up to a 75 or 90. Many more options with that bump.

^ agreed, mine is a 55 and I wish I had used a 75 for the extra 6". I didn't have space which is why I used the 55, but oh well.

I wonder if a 44g corner is better, the 55 long. I have one in my dinning room, love it, but do't know if it will be as good in the living room

A corner tank might give you some interesting options for rockscaping.

But the 55g will give you more room for fish that swim in bursts.

personaly, i dont like the corner ones, because you either have it filled with rock, which is a waste, or a void...which again, is a waste...
