Didn't really want to start another thread on play sand, but hey. Will play sand alone raise ph? Also I read that slate and granite raise ph. Will other rocks raise it as well? Also,,,if I put some crushed coral in a hang-on filter, will that graduallly raise the ph in such a way as to not harm the fish. My ph now is fine, well a bit low for cichlids, but they all appear healthy.

crushed coral should be fine and will not change ph too suddenly.

play sand by itself should not raise PH.

basically rocks with calcium deposits will raise PH. (i believe limestone deposits as well? i could be wrong)

granite and slate both have calcium inthem, and that is what raises PH. There are others.

if you're looking for sand, aragonite sand is a good option that will raise PH. you can mix it in with play sand if you wish.

that being said, most african cichlids will be "OK" at less-than- recommended PH, because very few of them are wild and most are sold in stores that dont maintain african PH. that being said, many will be more vibrantly colored or more active with the higher recommended PH.
