What is the best diet for convict cichlids?

I tried "blanching" carrots and peas but they just spit it back out. Right now they really like flake food. I also bought Cichlid Gold pellets but my adults wont swim to the top to eat them and the pellets seem to float no matter how much water they've absorbed, although my 1" cons love them.

What kinds of food are best to keep them healthy, vibrant and happy?

Also, my adult female has just laid eggs today, any special diet the parents should be on?

Get sinking pellets. Your cons may not be used to eating at the surface yet. Shrimps, earthworms, bloodworms, daphnia and brine shrimps can be added.

Try some HBH Super Soft Sinking Pellets, my cons love them. Also some frozen brine shrimp as a treat once a week is a good idea too.

my favorite cichlid food consists of;

-krill
-pieces of shrimp and fish (look for fish w/o a lot of oil) from the local grocery store
-cichlid gold
-flake food made for omnivores, so the cichlids dont get HITH disease
