while I was was watching my convicts round up their fry and herd them around the tank, I wondered if you could put a baby fish of another species thats the same size and have it raised by the parents. I was really considering dropping a baby guppy or two, but I realize that they could most likely tell the difference between their offspring and others. I'm really interested as to what might have happened. Has anyone else heard of this or even done this?

hmm it would seem possible but I would start with something similar to the convicts first....

What you should realize is how the fry of certain species may just react to what they do not consider as parents. The parents may just consider them as intruders.

More than likely the parents will see them as a predator and kill them.

I was thinking of dropping them in the middle of the shoal of fry where the parents probably wouldnt notice right away, but I suppose it would just be a matter of time
