What is the most ideal light cycle for a planted aquarium?

is it best to immitate the sun? like on at 6am and off at 7pm?

or should the light go off some time in between?

Ive always done 10-12 hrs a day. Recently with the 180gallon, Ive started upping the light wattage for 4hrs in the middle of the cycle, kind of imitating the midday sun. I dont know what ideal is, but it works for me.

Good question. Personally, I keep my light on for 9 hours. Its set on a timer... so it turns on around 12 and goes off around 9. I set thease hours for my viewing pleasure....

I run mine ten hours a day. I run from 2 to 12 so they are on when I am home. Anything from 8 to 12 hours will work.
