Ok thanks ot everyone up front for allt he help.
A quick recap is that I got a 5 gallon tank( it was my first mistake) and also got 2 platys and 2 guppies( overstock, mistake 2) not to mention it was a uncycled tank. cut to short fish started dieing and I had no clue
So now for my update. in the tank at this time is a sole surviving guppy and a few fry who seem to be platy. By the time thew other two fish died yesterday I noticed white spots so here is where I am today due to you all as well as a nice boy in petsmart( not at all like the first 3 I spoke with) who gave good advice.
I am testing a couple times a day and I am changing 25% of my water everyday and have taken to adding prime to every new batch of water.
Now 3 days ago when i had my water tested everything looked ok but my amonia was off the charts. today now a fiull 3 days later my amonis is now between 1.00 I know that isnt good but compared to the 8.0 that it was it is looking better and also my nitrates are good but my nitrites are .5 I am also treating the tank with something called coppersafe for ich as the two fish who died had the white spots. I have taken out the filter like the boy at pertsmart said to do.
here are my new questions.
How long should i treat as the bottle says for the month and I am doing water changes? Showuld I treat the new amount of water before putting it in the tank? Also is my filtwer ok to be used after all this or do I need to replace it?
How do we get nitrite numbers to go down a little more? Are my water changes doing what it is supose to with the changes I am reporting. I know the amonia is still very high but I am doing the daily wtaer changes.
I also have removed the plastic plants and replacesd with a couple of nice live plants and also added a airstone.
This guppy looks and acts so much happier she is swimming and eating and at present shows no signs of the white spots.:newbie:
