hi all,
I have just purchased a scooter blenny 3 days ago, he has been really happy hopping on the rock, glass etc. however today he has not moved and i am really worried about the little fella. I don't think he has eaten any of the frozen brine i usually feed my fish so i am worried that maybe he has not eaten anything. It did look like he was nibbling from the rock but it is hard to tell. Is there anything i can buy that he will eat or any other suggestions about what i can do for him. He does not look too good :1zhelp:

what I have come to understand here is that they are really hard to take care of if you don't have an established tanks cause the pods it needs alot of pods to eat.

How big is your tank sparkle and how much live rock do you have? You can also buy aquicultured pods off the net but, if you end up having to do that I'd order a couple of batches. Put one in your main tank and the other in a 40 gal plastic trash can with egg crate "lots of surface space and it's easy to pull out so that you can catch them." I'd grow them in an unused corner etc. vs. constantly ordering them.

only a 30 gal tank with 15 kg live rock.
I am worried scooter might not last as long as it takes to order it online, do you have a link?
I have just tried to put brine shrimp down to him via a turkery baster and he was not interested. I had to prod him to move. Really worried about him.

Oh, my it sounds like he's pretty far gone. If you've only had him a few days and you had a decent pod population it wasn't anything that you did. I hppe that he does make it he should be rather plump and active not emaciated and listless. Here is a link for pods I wish you the best and please do keep us posted.

hi, thanks you guys, i am not sure if i had enough pods to begin with, the shop i bought him from said that for the size and age of my tank he should be fine.
but obviously he is not. I will try to get some supplements and hope he holds on until it comes. I thought fish could survive for about a week without food, but he seems to be struggling.
thanks again
keep u all posted

You might try feeding some mysis shrimp. Just cut them up in really small pieces. Bloodworms is also something you could try. It's not a good long term diet but it should hold him over.

Scooters are dragonettes and need the same kind of care as a mandarain does. You'll need to supply it with pods via a fuge and buy the initial stock. You'll also likely need to buy other batches as your tank is smaller than most recommend for a dragonette. It sounds like yours was malnourished when you already got it. If you haven't had it long I'd frankly take it back to the store and tell them they never told you of their needs. And then I'd research before buying your next fish.
