This is a really basic question, but what does everyone have in their sump. I don't mean equipment, but where you have a fuge...do you have mud, sand, LR and macroalgae?

I have seen so many different ones and I was thinking of removing the LR from the sump to the tank. My fuge is a very small part of my sump, thought that way the chaeto could churn a bit and help control the red algae - -- if it's spinning it will be harder to adhere to.

Thanks

David

I have a 4" sand bed covered with LR. A huge ball of Cheato that I need to prune and several other macros. I also have a clean up crew working that area clean.

I have a bare sump, using a remote 20g rubbermaid container as a refugium. That way the refugium and skimmer receive separate feed sources and flow into a common bare sump.

FYI, "chaeto" is short for Chaetomorpha spp., a genus of a common green alga resembling a green scouring pad. Oh, and it is pronounced "key-toe-more-fuh", (not, eek, chee-toh(s)more-fuh--a pet peeve of mine) since many people have questions about that, as well.
