My girlfriend said I was a dork (jokingly but also kind of serious) because I like keeping aquariums. I should tell her she's a dork for having a dog! Ha ha!

I don't know... m dictionary has this definition of a geek:
a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake.
however, my dictionary doesn't have a definition for dork.

This is whats said to us because the mouth breathers cannot comprehend intellect.Just because you can't feed and pet "air force ones" your a geek. This is usually where my intellect(and charm) pull forward and i take their girlfriend.Geeks can have g-r-e-a-t conversations.Especially with females who's BF's are wannabe thugs aka want-to-be's.This fish geek has alot of "thugs" under his belt when they decide to fight with their brain.Even(unfortunatley) with their fists/hands.Just the compassion i have for animals and fish makes a few girlies fawn over how i'm not trying to be ... ... ... (edited by cheech. Sorry bud, don't like that word. )

I prefer the term "oddball". Yeah, it fits. And I'm okay with that. :) My co-workers had a real good laugh at me for ordering fish in the mail. Not telling them about the plants and genuine "snail mail"!
:swear: I'll dork you good! :swear:
Come over here and take your dorking.... :nutkick:

geek - 1. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual. 2.a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
dork - a stupid person.
I think we're mostly geeks, if anything.
Dorks are the people who buy goldfish for a fish bowl, and refuse to listen to the warnings from geeks.

Nicely put, but in this case I'd substitute dork and replace it with d***head

I'm with you!! I'm not a dork. I'm not a geek either. But we prolly have to admit that we aren't like most people. And I am fine with that. You ever look at most people? yikes!

personally, I am a mommy, a julie, a girlfriend, a good friend, a fish enthusiast, I am an animal lover, I am a smoker, I am one hell of a driver, I am a softball player, I am painter, I am alot of things, and if anyone thinks otherwise, well, then they are just plain jealous, that they can't be all of those things, plus more, in one beautifully wrapped package! :)

Dorks? No. For what we are, you could consult the Thesaurus and find the following:
nerd also nurd
NOUN: 1. Slang. An unpleasant, tiresome person: bore. Slang : drip, dweeb, jerk, pill, poop2. See LIKE. 2. Slang. One deficient in judgment and good sense: ***, fool, idiot, imbecile, jackass, mooncalf, moron, nincompoop, ninny, nitwit, simple, simpleton, softhead, tomfool. Informal : dope, gander, goose. Slang : cretin, ding-dong, dip, goof, jerk, schmo, schmuck, turkey. See ABILITY.
but the reference seems to be deficient in the positive aspects of the dictionary's take on the same entry word:
2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits...
so, as one who has been called all of these things over the years (post by judgemax excepted), I vote "none of the above".

whether it's considered geeky or dorky, I see a new trend lately, people getting into fish tanks.
It's amazing how many people see our work tank and are so intruiged by it. Many people come back and ask, take notes, and start the hobby.
So the way I see it is, being a fish geek is the new cool!

:iagree:
My brother and his two friends started out with a tank, then one of them got two more, then so did the other, now six more of his friends have tanks.
Our neighbour two doors down has just cleaned out his old 7gal and started the cycle, he's going to get a crowntail betta. Thankfully I can direct them to this site
