Where do you guys get your rubble rock or small piece to use for propagation? Obviously the cheaper u get the rubble rock the more you make on what you are trying to grow for profit. My LFS will sell me the Rubble rock for 3 - 4$ a LB and I don’t want to pay that much lol

Are there certain types of rock that I can use that I can find around me or no because of metals and such in them?

Also could cement be used if I form it into small stone looking pieces?

You can also look for some cheap base rock and bust it up.

$3-4 is way too much. I work at an lfs, and I take that crap home for free. You should pay 1-2 per pound, or make your own.

All you have to do is take a normal piece of live rock, preferrably one that is nice and porous, wrap it in a plastic bag or two, and smash it up with hammer. Presto, rubble!

Or find an LFS that sells it. My LFS sells LR for $7.99 per pound and rubble for $4.99 per pound so there is no way I'm taking a more expencive peice of rock and crushing it into cheap rubble.

yes, all too true. :thm:

You should consider the economics of making your own rock. I did it when I owned Captive Raised Corals a number of years ago and it worked out great. Sackrete sand mix with some calciumbased sand added in worked nicely. The curing process takes some time but not much effort and the end cost is extremely low when you consider a 40-50 pound bag of the mix is under $10 pretty much everywhere.

If you want uniformity, make plugs for attachment and a rack(s) to hold them. The idea can be found aft www.garf.org
