my biology teacher has a five gallon aquarium with like 3-5 goldfish, but it is sooooooo freaking dirty! she said that she wants to put an algae eating fish in their and NOT any snails. what would be good to add to the aquarium? also, i have a 29 gallon with a very small pleco in it, but i know it is going to get really big and want to know what other fish i can add with 2 african cichlids. (i don't like snails very much)

Ummm tell her that she has waaaay too many fish in that tank! WOW! One goldfish alone needs like 30 gallons because they grow pretty large (some up to a foot) and are extremely messy...are you sure it's algae, or is the water just dirty? Cycled? Water changes? Tropical algae eating fish also will not do well with goldfish because of the lower temps...

The best algae cleaner for a 5 gal is a scrubbie and a small siphon.....
