View Full Version : HELP this newbie ! ID this fish!
Hello....

Can anyone help to ID this fish so that I can find more info on care taking? It has two long feelers (seems longer than its body length) at its sides.
Might be putting it with silver dollars, zebra catfishes, silver tetras, platys and bettas.
Thanks!

It's a gourami, not sure what type (picture a little fuzzy) but my guess is that it's a gold gourami, possibly platinum..

Not sure about the silver dollars and zebra catfishes (never onwed them before) but should be fine with the tetras platys and betta. There might possible be some conflict with the betta, that's just on a case by case basis. How big is the tank? This will also influence behavior.

it depends on the tank size. bettas and gouramis may have some issues, and silver dollars get big and kinda agressive.
i think the zebra catfishes is either a rafael or a zebra pleco.. i've never heard of a zebra catfish persay... so i'm assuming its one of those.. you should look those up online and see if it matches.
its a 40 gallon tank.. even if its too small for them(gourami and silver) they'll have to make do with it... because I adopted them from my fren hu doesnt wan to keep them anymore... I am still treating a pop eye + hole in the head with one of the silvers... really a pain in the... well.. eye..
my bettas are female and the gourami is female too I think... I tot silver dollars are suited for communities?
right now I only have http://www.auspet.com/fish08.html and http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibility/NameResults.asp as reference.. do yo u have any other good links?
as for the catfish.. Im still doing research..

You may want to do some research about Silver dollars basically they are Characins(same family as piranhas and tetras)
Silver Dollars are largely herbivours and will eat plants...you should feed them lettuce and other veggie type food(including flakes).in essence no live, planted tanks with these guys.
a 40 is considered the smallest tank..they generally do best in schools/shoals.
they will grow to 6-8" so are considered relatively large..
suggestions would be to get a larger tank ..given your stocking level.

Since the bettas are females then they probably won't be a problem with the gourami... unless the gourami is the one picking on them.

some female bettas are just as aggressive as males, and gold/platinum gouramis are nasty toward other gouramis/bettas. plus, they can be pushy with other fish in the tank, especially ones that are not as aggressive as they are (like the platies).
Right now my tank is only stocked with the bettas and tetras... It just a forethought anyways.. if things dun work out, i'll have to give them anyway..
I read about not leaving them with plants.. however , I was wondering even if I feed them enuff, will they still feed on plants? I mean how bad would it be? I can live with a few bites off my plants...
