Well the red cap oranda (Mark), black bubble eye (Howard) and the apple snail (Hurk) are all in their new 30 gallon tank. They love the roman ruins and the black gravel really makes them look good. Hurk may need mole skin for his foot by tonight. He is doing laps around and around the tank. I'm sure Mark and Howard will want a massage after having all that room/excersise. The betta with a blue body and red fins (Georgette, yes it's a male but thats the name that came to mind :)) is loving the 5 gal mini bow with it's large mountain of caves and mountain top castle. But like any kids/animals buy them expensive stuff and they still want the box. I had to put a piece of box between the filter and the tank glass. I guess it was making to much of a mirror. Georgette was in total full manchu mode until I covered that spot. Now he is calmed down and off exploring. I'll be testing everyones water daily. Shouldn't be much problem with the 5 gal. But I did take some of the water and half the gravel to seed the 30 gal. It has a penguin 330. I'll probably upgrade to an emporer 400 when they reach full size. So far everyone is happy. Today will be a total fish day as all the fish got there new homes and I am going for orientation to start as a volunteer at the Newport Aquarium here in Kentucky.

How cool Heidi. You have to post back with details of the volunteer program at the Aquarium. What are you going to be doing there?

I will be learning about the exibits and what is in them then being a tour guide to folks as they come to the exibit I am working. I hope to one day get to be a husbandry volunteer. But there is a waiting list for that. But I have already got to meet the girl in charge of the dangerous exibit (stonefish, lion fish etc.) husbandry. I could have talked to her for hours. What a fantasic opportunity to learn from some of the best in the fields and give back to the community. If anyone in the N. Ky area would like to be an exibit volunteer check it out. I hear they need more. It is a commitment of 8 hrs a month for at least 6 mos. No they wan't let me come in everyday darn. LOL The director of volunteers says she watches our time so as folks not to get burned out. So I guess I will leave the sleeping bag at home. I will keep you posted.

http://photos.yahoo.com/heidyth then click on the "animal kids" album.

As far as the volunteering I went to orientation and it was great to get to see behind the scenes. My favorite spot. I take 2 training courses next week. Plus I am already getting to meet other crazy fish people and swap stories.

That penguin 330 should be all the filtration you will need for that tank. :)

How were you able to photograph your fish so well? I try to do that but mine are way too fast and I end up with just a blur. I'd appreciate your advice.

thanks :)

Well it helps that the gold fish seem to be hams for the camera. Except for today when all I got was tails or just empty tank space :) Plus I take a zillion pictures and delete the bad ones. Which sometimes is most of what was taken. Plus good ole LUCK LOL! If I do get a technique down I'll let you know.
