Where to get Rock

Ok, I realize this is a total NOOB question.... but where do I get rocks to aquascape my tank?!?!? LR is not an option because it is illegal in my state. The lfs did not have anything besides the colorful fake coral. I just got a 60 gal Hex tank so I want to build up with good sized, natural looking rocks.

I would try to get it from another reefer / reef club. Even though it may be illegal sometimes you just have to bend the rules imho. =)

Just think of it like you're being a pioneer and fighting the power! ha. But seriously it's what I would do. It's not like you're starting a meth lab! You're starting a fish tank.

Also what state are you from? You could make your own rock in the DIY section and eventually it would become live anyways.

I am in Hawaii. Good idea to get it from someone else.... I will have to find someone else. :) Hmmm... off to post on craigslist

I don't know of anywhere that it's illegal to purchase rock from a fellow reefer or reef club **** Please make sure you pay your VAT in countries where this applies!**** It is 100% Illegal to to collect L.R. in the wild in most states. I would encourage you to either purchase aquicultured rock or to produce your own. I would never encourage you to bend the rules when it comes to endangered species collection. It's repugnant and not something to be encouraged in this hobby or any other. Our seas are in enough trouble with us adding to the problems.
I'm not saying that we should limit the collection of common species as this will encourage people in developing countries to preserve thier resources. In the case of anything that's in trouble though we don't need to add to their stress. We should all refuse to purchase from any but, reputable sources and buy aquicultured when ever possible.

You can legally have cultured live rock I believe. Live Aquaria sells that.

OK, well I am going to try to get LR, but if I can't..... where can I get regular rocks/ what kind of rocks do I get??
