So today my pair of Yellow Convicts arrived, the big one is about 1 1/2" and getting some gorgeous Yellow Coloring, the small one is about 1/2" with no coloring yet. I would take some pics but my digital camera sux, and these fish are fast to hide. lol Give them a couple days to get use to me and the tank, and ill try to get some pics.

can you sex a nanoluteus at 1/2"?

No you cant sex them under 2". The bigger one is looking like a male because female yellow cons will have like a black circle patch on their dorsal fin when they mature around 2" and the bigger one isnt devoloping any black circle patches on the dorsal fin. Then smaller one is to small to tell at this point and is barely getting any yellow.

But I'm sure as with most species of Convicts they can change their sex up to 3", I've had two 2" black cons before that had no female coloring, and then one started to devolop the orange coloring on the belly after keeping just the two. So I'm sure my small one will end up female, as I would love to breed them, and sell the fry. Most LFS dont buy Convicts due to how easily they breed, but I know Yellow Cons arent readily available in the local markets so I know a few stores would be interested in buying some.

Very cool. You don't see those guys very often for sale. Speaking of fish related to the Convict Cichlid, I'm hoping to get a pair of Honduran red points soon.

Yeah a friend of mine went to a huge fish show/auction and got a few Yellow Convicts that are for sale at www.wildcichlids.net (http://www.wildcichlids.net) anywho I bought me a pair because they get such vibrant coloring when they mature, and they're not readily available in local markets.

Not sure as the Yellow Cons are more docile, they arent as aggressive as regular convict cichlids. guess it depends on each fishes temperment.

hey Mike, did you get a pair or just 2 fish?

Never mind I reread the entire post.

Well I got just 2 Yellow Cons, and the smaller one so far appears to be female, and I have 2 more Yellow Cons on hold from the breeder since the Pictus Cat I ordered from them was killed by USPS during shipping. So they were going to refund me the money for the Pictus Cat but I told them to keep the money as down payment and I'll pay the difference for the 2nd pair of Yellow Cons.
