I finally bought some used lights..

and the guy I bought them from asked if I would rather have 2 50/50s or 1 12k and 1 actinic. any suggestions?

2nd option sounds best, but you might want to wait until you get a couple more answers :)

I'm guessing you're talking about compact flurescent light right?

When I had it, I went for 1 all white and 1 all blue. On another tank, I got 2 50/50's. I tried swapping the bulbs around between the two, and honestly couldn't tell much difference. I don't think it really matters. But like featherduster says, wait for few more responses!

I have 2 12000Ks and 2 actinics and I really like it, just because the actinics are on an hour before and an hour after the daylights to simulate dawn and dusk...its a nice effect.
