Ok...so I asked in a previous thread for some suggestions about how to setup an AquaFuge Pro sump and protein skimmer with some nice feedback on the subject. This time, things are a little more complicated.
I just picked up a used LifeReef LF1-150 (scroll down a little) berlin sump kit which includes a protein skimmer. I got the whole setup home and discovered that a LifeReef Single Prefilter Siphon Box (again scroll down a little) came with it. I got a huge deal on this setup. The only reason I really bought the system though was for the pumps. FWIW, I paid less for this whole setup than either one of the pumps would have cost new. Also note that my aquarium is already reef ready, so really don't need the siphon box.The LifeReef is 30" x 13" x 14" and the AquaFuge Pro is 32" L x 12" W x 14.5" . Therefore, relatively speaking they are about the same size. Both have a protein skimmer, both serve the same basic functions, but the AquaFuge is designed for a refugium and the LifeReef is a berlin design. The LifeReef also has an optional setup (that I would have to purchase) for media cylinders (calcium reactor, phosban reactor, etc.) which the AquaFuge can't handle. I should also mention that the AquaFuge skimmer is powered by a MaxiJet 1200 power head and the LifeReef skimmer is powered by a Little Giant 3mdqx-sc. Also of interest might be that the AquaFuge skimmer is built into the sump while the LifeReef is stand alone unit.
So now my question is which one should I try to use? Keep in mind, I have both already here. Also note that this is for a 75 gallon tank that is not yet setup.
I seriously considered attempting to create some massive and elaborate setup using both but I'm guessing there is no way that both will fit nor is there any need for two protein skimmers.
OH I HATE BEING A :newbie: !
