I have done all the work myself. I dug the hole, shuttled the dirt around until I had it the way I liked it, and put it all together. I dont say that for a pat on the back...I am saying it to express that it is not really that hard (except digging in Georgia red clay:wall: ).

I estimate the pond at about 500 gallons maybe. The dimensions are 9x9x30" deep.

I love the diving board!!

kidding, looks like a job well done, killa.... can'/t wait to see it after it's established with fish and plants...

Thanks! I am going to wait a few weeks and let the bacteria establish it's self before I add fish. I plan on adding two turtles also.

I also have a UV steralizer coming in the mail next week.

I will plant shrubs in the mulch area on the backside of the water fall and then research adding the plants to the pond it's self. I am absolutely clueless in that regard to the pond.

Thanks again!

Great job. I assume you will be covering the liner on the edges with more mulch or grass.

A good link to start with as to what plants to put into the pond would be:

Thanks hankn! Yeah, I plan on lining the mulch with brick to give it a "clean" appearance. I will read up on the plants!

Wrong.

and
http://www.geocheminc.com/ovalcalc.htm
estimates it at 400G (assuming average depth is also 30")

http://www.justliners.com/ovalponds.htm
estimates it at 500G.

Yeah, 500G is more what I was thinking. Thanks for the links. I am going out to pick up some floating plants today and start to put some of the bricks down.

Thanks again!

hankn must have put down the wrong size..

trainedkilla
09-09-2007, 9:47 PM
I cant really guess-estimate the size because I dont know anyone with a pond to reference it from. I have had quite a few fish tanks but it is different, obviously.

I know it took quite a while to fill though! :)

09-09-2007, 9:58 PM
well since mine is 720 gallons and is only 6'x8'x2' and yours is 9'x9'x2.5' It's quite a bit bigger ;)

What do you plan on stocking it with?

hankn

hankn must have put down the wrong size..

He said his pond is - "The dimensions are 9x9x30" deep." My mistake was taking 30 and dividing it by 36 to come up with .83' deep when it should have been 2.5' deep :-)

That's an update pic!

I still have some plants to add and a few trees behind the waterfall. I want to add some logs in the pond so it can accomodate a few turtles too.

Let me know what you all think.

Nice!!! All you need are some Lilys, shelf plants and floaters, and It'll be looking great.

trainedkilla
10-23-2007, 9:54 PM
I have been researching shelf plants and I went to buy some but my shelves are too shallow and I cant get the plants to stand up without the wind blowing them over.

I have to think of other options.

nice looking pond..but one thing to keep in mind with turtles, they WILL be able to crawl out of that. I did the edging around mine almost the same, but even more straight up, and I lost two turtles to escapes last spring. I'm redesigning my edge in the spring to prevent it. Just don't want you to spend money on animals and have them escape, especially if they're non-native.

Also, re. volume measurements - those calculators calculate volume like you would in a fishtank; as if it were a perfect rectangular box. Obviously thats not the case. The edges are round and the sides are sloped. I put in the measurements for my pond and it gives me over 2500 gallons, but when I 3D modeled it in AutoCAD, its closer to 1200gal or so. So, you're probably closer to half or less of what those calculators give you.
