Question about Java Ferns. It is my understanding that they grow "daughter plants" to reproduce. How long does it take for one plant in average conditions to procreate? And what is needed to be done to the Java fern so that you can replant the daughter plant?

This is your plant: http://www.plantgeek.net/plant-139.htm Sunset Hygro
It's a pretty fast growing plant even in not so great conditions. :)

Not sure about any time frame for java fern production, but they often produce daughters when they are on their way out and the leaf is dying. The baby plants will usually come off when they are ready and can be planted or left floating around the tank.

I have a bit of that and it grows like a proverbial WEED. I swear an inch a day isn't out of the question.

Side note - it's a federal noxious weed. You can't get it anymore, so if you like it snip and plant more to get it. You can't sell it and probably shouldn't trade it.

That's because Canada doesn't have laws.

Unless someone has seen differently, you can't buy it in the US.
