I have been looking everywhere to find so water jugs that I can use to store my RO/DI water. Sadly to say, I have been quite unsuccessful. I plan on making RO/DI water and storing it for top offs and such. However, I need something small enough to store under a sink cabinet for example. I'm in a condo, so storage is a premium and this is part of my WAF.

I've been to Home Depot, Walmat, and some grocery stores with not success. None have empty bottles. Home Depot carries the 5 gallon blue jugs, but they are prefilled. Walmart and some grocery stores have some nice flat but long 2.5 gallon bottles that I like, but they are also prefilled with distilled water.

I did however see this bottle at Menards. http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=5620B718G&categoryid=8510
This might work, but I'm not sure about how they would hold up for storing water. Any other place to look for empty water bottles that are also small enough to store under a sink. 5 gallon flat jugs would be perfect and I only need 2 or 3.

Thanks.

You can just use a new trash can.

If you tank isn't that large what about a 5 gallon pail with lid from a donut shop. I know around here they sell them for like a buck and they have only had shortening or icing in them. You could clean those up and use those.

I can't use a trash can, because of storage. I need to have this out of sight. I thought about using a Home Depot bucket with lid, but I was not sure if that is ok. Besides the look of the blue jugs look cool too.

If I read your post right you want something that will fit under your sink, and it should be able to hold 10 to 15 gal.Big Lots or Walmart both carry storage bins that would do it,if your worried about the strength double them up,If you can put a couple five gallon buckets under the sink,I would go that route, much easier to handle and you can use old salt mix buckets or buy some new ones at Home Depot or Lowes for a couple dollars each with the lids.

Yea, I'm looking for 2 or 3 5 gallon storage containers. I'll see how a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket will fit under the sink. If so, 2 or 3 of those would be great with a lid.

I did like the coleman containers because I could lay they flat and they are 5 gallons so they would be easy to store.

Salt buckets seem to work well for me. I have like 7 of them now. HA!

I wouldn't recommend using a container that is not food-grade

why not just buy the ones you liked that are pre-filled and use the water for something else....then you have the empty for your RO/DI water.....

I use gas and kerosene gas cans (new) and they work great. Kerosene cans are blue for my salt water and the red gas can for my RO top offs. The plastic gas cans make for easy pouring and storage. I buy all my water from my LFS so it makes transportation very easy. My RO is 2 1/2 gallons and the kerosene is 5 gallons.

They work great!

Thats pretty much what I do too. My neighbors in my apt always look at me wierd like I'm carrying gas up to my apt though.

Any grocery store that has an RO water machine will sell empty five gallon blue jugs. I happened to find mine at Big Lots for $7.00 each.

I found plastic blue 6 gal jugs marked "water" at Kmart for $8 in the camping section. They come with a pouring spout, too.

I tried a new red gasoline container. But my fish and corals didn't look so good after I used it. I was wondering if they are coated on the inside with a chemical. Anyone know?

The orange home depot buckets worked fine for me till I built up enough salt buckets.

I just use a bunch of those 5gal water jugs. They work fine. If you really want some custom 5gal flat containers or other custom shapes, there's an online plastic company that makes them. They are not cheap btw. I forgot the website. If I find it I'll post it.
Here's a google search. (http://www.google.com/search?q=plastic+container&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) The 1st and 3rd link has some nice containers at reasonable prices. Maybe it's what your looking for.

I was wondering if water gets spoiled if in the containers for too long? I usually don't store water in them for too long, just on water changing days for my FW tanks. The water is used the same day they are filled.
