Hello I have a 27 gallon tank with a HOB filter and a few powerheads, and I wanted to replace the HOB with a sump, so I went out and bought a used overflow box and I already had a 5 gallon tank (only thing I could fit under the stand). MY question was is it still worth installing this sump, will that extra 5 gallons still be benificial??? If it still would help can some of you give me a few good brands for a return pump and any ideas on how to do the return plumbing (spraybar, nozzle, ect..). And one last thing is it possible to turn it into a refugium????

thanks

I am very new to the marine world So take this as you may. A 5 gal sump/refug would increase your total water volume by 18%.

As for return pump I love the RIOs
and I just added a HOB fuge to my 46 gallon tank, i have a 30 gal sump with about 6 or 7 gallons of water. The fuge is great already little pods, snails etc.. climbing around it is more fun to watch than the tank!

Hmm, you might run to Home Depot or Lowes and checkout their tall skinny trash cans. See if you can find two that you could fit under there, connect them with a bulkhead and some PVC. Use one as your fuge and the other as your return. If you need an example I'll be happy to draw one for you
