1st do any of you own the 4x65 aqua light with the 6700k bulbs.
What do you think of it?
Will 260 be enough light for a 90 as the 90s a little deep?

Halides are nice, but I've seen people tackle it with multiple NO fixtures and high-k bulbs.

Seems to me like PCs are a good bet between space/heat/price/availablity. Small to medium sized fixtures, that are warm but not unmanageable, for a comparative price per watt and that are also easy to get online or at a nicer LFS?

That, of course, is just an opinion. Reseach, man, RESEARCH! It wil save us all! :)

I've got a 90g its a bit hard to tackle with no flo's
I'm thinking the 260w aqualight would run me like $175
They look nice sitting over a open tank:D
But wondering if my money is better spent on two all glass tripple t5 lights same money as the aqualight But can afford to keep the bulbs newer (hot)in the standard fixture.
So ld like to hear some more opinions as this is the only high buck thing I've ever bought:rolleyes: I'm a diy'er all the way but want one nice tank with NO diy for once in my life.

lets put this differently. If you had $250 to buy lights for a 90G and didnt want halides or a canopy what would you get?

BTW no offence was taken I did a search and you guys havent discused the aqualights before so realy wanted to know what you guys thought and will order somthing soon (this week)while the boss is offering me a deal so kinda antsy for sugestions:rolleyes:

The Aqualights really look like a nice setup, I saw them at an LFS awhile back and have seen them online. Did they recently start making them with 6700k bulbs? The only ones I could find a few months ago had I think a 10,000k 50/50 bulbs or something (for reef/sw stuff). Of course you could change the bulbs out I suppose.

I'll have to look into them some more, I'd like to get one for my 55 gallon, but 4x65 is a bit much. Wish I had some first hand experience for ya somefin, let us know how it goes if you decide to get one!

Some,

With some ingenuity, you can rig a number of those screw in compact flourescents with light sockets in you hood. I have them in mine and the growth is great!!!

I have a 29 gallon with 3/23watt cf bulbs (I used the hood that came with the tank). I gutted the hood and left the switch in place. I attached and wired a number of sockets after lining the inside of the hood with the highly reflective duct tape (not the grey kind, the shiny type).

If you want, you can choose anywhere from 2 watt to 42 watt and from 2100K to 6500K temp/color bulbs.

You can even mix and match for a very wide spectrum. I have 5100k's in my tank ($6.00+ each).

Total Package:
3 sockets - $0.79 each
3 bulbs - $23.00 after shipping
Duct tape -had it

Total:25.37 (roughly) Total WPG - 2.37

I love them!!!!

Here's the website for the bulbs.

sure now you tell me about 1000 bulbs .com:rolleyes:
Just heard about them from a customer two days ago.
I have a screw in and 13w twin kit loaded into a diy hood for a 29.
bright but not quite the look I'm going for.

I've sold myself on the aluminum aqualight 260 watts in a 5"wide fixture could fit two or three on a 48x18 frame I will order it next week after I've gotten my check on FRI.
