I am working out of town, so naturally I have nothing better to do than browse Live Aquaria and look for fish that I like.:D
Here is a list I have compiled...no particular order. They are just fish that I like...I'm sure there are a ton more...
Royal Gramma
Volitan Lionfish
Firefish
Yellow Tang
Sixline or Lunar Wrasse
Clown(s)
Spotted Hawkfish
Flame Angel
Butterfly fish (I love the Copperband, but is there a hardier one??)
Niger Trigger
Cardinals

Please give me your feedback/opinions.
I don't plan on running out and buying these all at once or even in the next six months....it's purely based on what I like today. It might change when I visit the LFS this week....
Thanks!!!!!

Biggest question..are you wanting this tank to be a reef? If so some of those fish won't work.
I really don't foresee this particular tank as a reef for me....although it would be quite stunning as a reef tank. Well, in theory anyway. I guess it depends on my skill:).
I do love the idea of a reef tank...maybe a 55g down the road. Even if I did change my mind in the future, I could move the not-reef-friendly critters to a new home....

Well Lions are not recommended with Basslets, Cardinals, Clowns, Firefish and Caution with several others you have listed. I have never had a lion fish but would caution you on what you introduce with it in the tank. Maybe someone who has one will speak up. I have a chart that I found on a website that I use as a guide as to what to stock.. I can give you the link if you like.

The website would be good...thanks. I like the Lion, but I really don't want to give up the having small fish to have one, if that's the case.
Plus they sting.
But they are cool.
Thanks!!

Here you go.. It requires adobe reader

Edit: BTW I wouldn't use this as a bible, I use it as a guide and rely on my LPS guy that I trust completely to let me know what is compatable/caution but might work in my tank.. (ie My Angelfish).. When I eventually want corals.. But I'm gonna try. So far my Polyps are fine.

Robbie...go out and buy Scott A. Michael's Reef Aquarium Fishes pocket guide. Get the blue paperback version..NOT the white one. The blue one is newer and has more info and it is up to date with info. It will be valuable for you in stocking your tank.

Thanks! I'll do that....I have something called the Burgess Atlas of Marine Fish I think (something like that)? I'll look for this one...

id also be careful with that niger trigger... they do get quite large, like aroud 20", and although not as aggressive as other triggers I still wouldnt trust it with small fish.

The only real problem with your list that I see is the volitian. Lionfish can and will eat anything that fits into their mouth. Also lions and triggers don't go well together because triggers are know to nip at lionfish fins which creates infection problems for the lions. It is generally not a good idea to mix predators and non preditorial fish. I recommend going either with a preditor tank or a social tank. I hope that this rambling helps some.
