are bamboo plants low light plants? will they be ok rooted in sand.

they are not aquatic.... will rot and die if left in the tank.

You can have the roots and some to most the stalk in the tank. but ya not the top leaves they will rot. my wife has had a long one in here 20 gal for over 10 months. its doing great.

i think you can grow them emersed, as long as a good chunk of it + the leaves are above the water.

:iagree: I had one in a tank for over a year, planted in sand. As long as the leaves are above the water line it will be fine.

But keeping them straight vertical in sand is a balancing act. They tend to be top heavy with the leaves higher on the plant.
