hmm not sure what this was/is maybe some can enlighten me. I break all the rules of cycling etc and I rarely test my water conditions so don't ask me hehe.

but, my tank had some algea type junk growing on the side of the tank towards the side the sun hits in the morning. I drained my 29 gal tank a little less then half way and cleaned off this algea stuff. When I refilled the tank the water was really cloudy kinda smokey like. I just left it alone and about 2-3 hours later the water was crystal clear again. Was this just junk being kick up from the bottom when I refilled?

No, most likely it was bubbles gassing out of the water. If the water was straight from the tap, this is likely the cause.

Are you really proud of yourself for not testing? How can you know if it's cycled?

proud? no its just I personally I always had better luck without using additives etc then when I used to use them. I never had a problem with my fish dieing so my theroy is if it isn't broke don't fix it. The only thing I use is a dechlorinator on initial tank set up or after a full tank cleaning where I completely drain it.

I fully agree that using additives is seldom helpful. However, testing for ammonia and nitrites, pH, GH and KH in no way adds any chemicals to your tank.

The more you leave them alone, the better they flourish. That's why there's glass on them. To keep yer fingers out of there.
