Hey guys,

After my stint with the Powder Brown, I'd like a new fish. I have QT tanks set up and ready to roll, so it seems like a good time to do it.

Basically, I have a 29g with a lot of rock.

Current fishie inhabitants are:

2 SMALL clowns (1 inch each maybe)
2 SMALL chromies (3/4 inch-1 inch maybe)
Scooter Blenny (Getting fat on pods)

The clowns are cool, but they rarely venture out of their beloved anemone

The chromies are...well, they kind of suck. Ha. They don't do much, and unless it's food time, they're apt to hide. They might be coming out of the tank sometime...if they're catchable.

I'd like something with good personality, something a little bigger, colorful, that doesn't hide all the time and won't eat my crustaceans.

Any suggestions?

I'd also like to add that I do approx. 17% weekly water changes, so I'm not too concerned about the bioload. ;)

a dwarf angel? Not sure on recommended tank sizes, but a coral beauty is a beautiful fish and i think they can be kept in a 30g, and well 29g whats the dif? You say you do water changes a lot too, so maybe if you got rid of the chromis you could add a coral beauty? Lots of color and personality in that fish.

Yeah, I was considering a dwarf angel, although i might lean more towards the cherub than the coral beauty, but i'm just not so sure. They can be a tad bit aggressive, and hard to get back out. Maybe, though...

Thanks for the suggestion!

hmm what else. Maybe if you wanted to keep the chomis you could up the shoal to 5 or 7?

Another cool schooling fish i like are chalk bass. Get about 2 inches, colorful peacefull and playful. Keep them in even numbered groups unlike the chomis though.

You could always just add more coral too =)

The flameback angelfish might be another pic, not so common like the cherub. They also stay smaller.

joander,I was told that it should be a "odd" number on most schooling fish, was I given wrong info? The reason I ask is that I am wanting a small school of Anthias. The way I read your post though you said up the chromis to 5 or 7 then said need to keep them in an even number, was this just a typo?I am trying to do as much research on schooling fish before I buy them,so any help would be much appreciated.Sorry Subliminal,I am not trying to hijack your post.I'll start another thread on it.

I have 3 chromis and it almost doesn't matter because you can ask anyone who has them .. they only school when they are young and when they get old they will kill eachother until one is left anyway ...

You said you wanted something with personality ... you should get a carpenters flasher wrasse... they stay 3" inches and very colorfull .. will swim and not hide too much and they are reef safe.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike.

I'm trying to skip any fish that will jump out of my tank. I don't really want to modify the lid, and I know wrasses can be jumpers.

But there's no bad suggestions. There's just so many fish out there, and some I would never think of.

I just swung by Petco and they had cheryb and coral beauty angels, and i almost bit, but decided to skip it and think some more.
