I am looking at buying a homemade plexiglass tank. Is this the same as acryllic? He also stated that he used 1/2" pvc to make the bottom and back of the aquarium, It is a 125 gallon. Anyone every heard of using these materials?

Plexiglass yes, but only with a small tank. pvc? No. I'm not saying it hasn't been done, just that I know nothing about it...along with a bunch of other stuff.;)

all the info I have read states that plexiglass and acrylic are the same thing. I hope this is accurate. The person that has this tank says they have had it up and running for three years. I only question the use of the PVC really. Any one else heard of this?

Well... as far as using these two materials are you just worried about the bonds holding between the PVC and the acrylic?
If so... Id say you are ok...
But dont quote me.
dave76,
See the link below for info on acrylics. Plexi-glass is a name brand acrylic.

One of my favorite lfs has two large holding tanks made completely of PVC sheets. My guestimate on their size is 10-12' long x 3' wide by 2.5' high. He segments them into smaller (or larger) sections as needed with egg crate material. I think he obtained them from a bait shop that went out of business. I am not sure what the proper way to attach acrylic to PVC but I will assume that it is some type of solvent....maybe the same stuff used to seal acrylic to acrylic.
Good Luck.
