Time and again there are questions about sexing fish. I have been collecting photos of the sex organs of the different fish to post at my site. There's a really bad joke here somewhere. Anyway, I thought it would be a good reference if anyone was having trouble sexing their fish.

Anyway, here are some I have so far. All are egg chutes:

And this one is just disturbing. :D ..a very odd angle:

Managuense:
Another crotch shot...

I know...disturbing. For the record...these are the hardest photos to take. Hope it helps.

Do Mbuna have egg chutes? The only way I have been able to tell the sex of my labs or zebras are by coloration and behavior and even that is an educated guess untill you see them carrying eggs in their mouths.

I hope all of those fish are mature... ;)

Seriously, here are some other websites that talk about 'venting' fish to help determine sex even when breeding tubes are not dropped:

http://www.petsforum.com/personal/svoorwinde/articles/venting/venting.htm

http://www.vatoelvis.com/Sexing.html

http://www.tanganyikan-cichlids.co.uk/Articles/sexdif.htm

http://www.fishhead.com/articles/ventsex.htm

Take a look. They do help!!

Thanks for the links Marcus. I had some, but not the others. I bought one of those lights that have a built in magnification viewer for the fish room. It's still difficult to get it right unless you have one or two for comparison.
