Sweet yea, I started out with a new pet, pretty much how I got all my pets; my girlfriend getting it and I step in to prevent it from becoming a tyrant or saving it from starvation. She means well and I've found a lot of myself raising my dogs Jake and Duke, cats muk muk and burty, and my beta... Beta. I got tired of changing out his little fish bowl and moved him up to a gal and a half tank with a filter. Helped out a bit but then i added a pleco to help clean up the joint. Not much fun, I fed them and then cleaned their tank, not sure of where it was going, but i cared about their wellfare. In order to reduce the amount of cleaning time, and to accomidate the growth of the pleco, my girlfriend landed a sweet deal on a 10 gal set up for $20 and it was on. I still didn't really care much but my beta loved me and love feeding time and couldn't have been happier. I couldn't say so much for the pleco. times were hard for him and the fact that he was born without ever knowing his father, and never getting to say goodbye to his mom seemed to haunt him. his demonds caught up with him and he committed suicide by shooting out of a hole in the lid and took his last breaths on my kitchen floor. Using the advice from the pet store guy, i puchased a rubber lip pleco, with the understanding that he would only get to about 5" max., and also I thought " what the heck" lets try out a red claw crab. Thats when things got crazy for me. I found my self half bent over the counter, constantly wondering what the crab was doing, or if he was gonna eat or what was the fuss growing on him and in the aquarium. Much like the thing that happened to that boy on the movie E.T. and uh.. E.T., i started to understand him and feel his thoughts. He wasn't wondering constantly, but moreso felt trapped. Not that he knew that he was in an aquarium but more that he saw something he wanted but couldn't get it. I set up some plants that go to the top and it seems that that was all he wanted... was to get some air. He's very happy now, and doesn't want companionship i learned. even a female crab is not cool. He loves my beta and other fish and has molted once so far. Since then I had a snail invasion, and enjoyed their company enought to keep one of them and bought some mystery snails, which are very cool. I have some ghost catfish and some tetras, but other than that, I have a pretty fun to watch balanced set up. I recently bought a twenty gal and am about to set it up. I want some new fish, but I like things that are more weird than pretty. My betta is jealous of any other fish, but leaves the snails and crab alone. Do ya'll have any idea's of any fish that would blow my skirt up and won't upset my balanced community?
