I have a 75 gallon tank with 2 redtail sharks. I know you're not supposed to keep them together but I wanted to try. They're still alive after a month and a half but the bigger one is gettin a lot bigger. I have another 20 gallon tank that I'm going to put one in. The 20 has got 8 redeye tetras in it right now. Will the redtail that I put in the 20 gallon bug the tetras? And...Which redtail should I move. The larger bully, or the smaller faded one??

Thanks,
Tigurius

The smaller one. The bigger one will just be stressed out in the smaller tank.

Sometimes the experiences of others really is relevant. I'm glad that you recognize the problem, and are making the change. Keep in mind that the shark is going to be a big fish for the 20--you may want to increase your water changes, either in frequency or volume.

As with a number of fish, rts are fine together when they are young, providing you have ample caves. However, they do start fighting once they age. Good job in finding a new home.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll move the redtail tomorrow, he's looking a little torn around the edges. Do redtails like to hide when they are not with another of the same species? Is that just an instinct when another redtail is around?

redtails love to hide. give them plenty of cover, caves etc. just e careful with your choice of plants. plastic plants tend to tear up the fins of this bread, as well as just about any other. use silk or live plants if you can. silk are a little more expensive than plastic, but will keep fins looking healthy.

i've had redtails for years. i just sold my last one a couple of months ago, and still miss her. they are beautiful fish, that requires tonnes of space, and they can live for years!
good luck, email me if you want about any specific redtail issues, i've raised them and bread them for years!
