Ok...quick question....Just did my bi-weekly test:

ph ~ 6.8
NO2 ~ 0
NH3 ~ 0
NO3 ~ 10

I've noticed these numbers holding pretty steady the past few times (which of course is a good thing). So my question is, in a heavily planted tank, is there any certain numbers that I should be looking for?

I thought I read somewhere where plants use nitrates. Gotta make sure fishies and plants will have a good environment.

Thx

Plants will use NH3 and NO2 before resorting to nitrate. 10, being 10 mg/l?, Is normal sounds all good to me. Even high NO3 wont bother hurt most fish, but they won't look so hot either. If the tank has been long established you might either want to think about other methods for reducing NO3 occasionally. Some anaerobic bacteria is fun, but experimental in fresh water, chemical means of removal or increased water changes can reduce it to minimal levels. Try checking the pH late at night sometime, this will tell you what kind of chemical fluctuations are occurring.
