ok, i have done some resaerch on cycling but i dont have it down pat, i want to do the cocktail shrimp method i think, so when i put the shrimp in does the water need to have the salt, sand (i am useing live sand, is that ok?) and all my fake rocks and plants in the tank, along with the chunk of live rock in it, filters running, power head running, heater on, and light on? So basically do i need the tank to be fully set up and running, then put the shrimp in? and after i put the shrimp in what do i do next?
thank you all,
shane

I am still a newbie, but I just cycled my tank recently. Someone else please correct me if I am wrong on anything. :D
You want to have your salt, live sand, and live rock in before you start the cycle. Run the heater and powerheads, but I'm not sure about the filter. I ran mine (wet/dry trickle filter) but I left the protein skimmer and the canister filter off. I do not think you need the lights, but I ran mine occasionally...
There is a sticky or two at the top of the newbie forum that describes the shrimp cycling method (I used pure ammonia) along with other methods. I found it very helpful when I started my tank.
Good Luck, and I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in also!

Running the filter depends on what she intended to use for her biological filtration. The the filter is her intent then she would need to run the filter. If not then no. Otherwise you are correct robbie.

I cycled with NSW..natural sea water and some Cycle(bacteria in a bottle)..I had the water, live sand, live rock, filter, power heads and heater going the whole time..I cycled in 3 weeks..hope this helps..i have never done the live fish or shrimp methods

i am using a bio whell filter, people been telling me to use the pure ammonia method, so that is what i am going to do i guess, since i already have pure ammonia from when i was gunna cycle a tank last year but never set it up, but thanks every one all help is appreciated!!!
