The other day I noticed one of my peacock eels had died and was quite decomposed. I immediatley removed him and tested the water and did a 50% wc while the results developed. No Amm, No RITES, but RATES had risin to 80ppm.
The next two days I did not test the water, but did two more 50% waterchanges.
Now I've noticed my biggest pang has creme colored warts on his fin.
Its def. not ick...
He's the only one with it and doesnt seem to be sick...
I'm going to test the water now...
any ideas?
PS. I never saw the peacock eel eat and I believe that was the cause of death.

hmmm, no ideas huh?
Well, it seems to be spreading to his other fins.
I'm concerned for my other fish, I hope it isnt contagious.
Everyone else seems fine tho. I'm going to buy another rubbermaid tub and sponge filter so I can QT him and medicate with stress coat and melafix. Hopefully that will do the job.
Q: The fish have a cauliflower-like growth on, or at the base of the fins.
A: This is Lymphocystis Virus and cannot be cured. No suitable treatment known.
Q: My fish have an off-white looking substance growing on the fins.
A: This is a gram-negative bacterial infection called Columnaris Disease. Some people often mistake this disease as a fungus.
Shhh... silent thread.

lymphocystis looks almost like ich spots that are twice their normal size, and only on the edges of the fins.

so, it's fish warts?
warts in people (hands/feet) are generally benign, but i guess on a fish if they got big enough they might impair swimming.

well my first thought was that it was like ick, but too large to be ick.
Here's a pic of my Intensive Care Room.

Looks as tho it could be columnaris. Have you added any new tank inhabitants, how long have you had these fish?
If the fish is still doing well, I would question whether it is columnaris because columnaris is usually a quick killer and highly contagious. Fish usually goes downhill really fast. And using meds for it is kinda hit and miss, more often miss...

agreed.
if the only spots are on the tail fin as in the pic, I would not even treat with meds.
if the fish are otherwise healthy, that should clear up on its own once the water quality improves (ie the nitrates come way down).
pangasius can be sensitive to meds, so be careful.
good luck!
The fish act normal. Actually, lately they've been more active.
I haven't added anything to this tank in a couple months and these pangs are one of my oldest fish.
I did notice some growth on his other fins too.
