So is it a Green Terror or a Blue Acara? I was thinking Blue Acara, but he does own the tank (and he's got the lumpy forehead...so I'm thinking I might have a Green Terror pair after all) I hope that this won't mess things up in my "Firemouth" tank!

Nice arrangement, very natural. I like the sand, live plants and the driftwood. I like how you placed the driftwood on top of the rocks, now I'm inspired....

I would pull those Amazon sword plants up a little bit so that you can see some roots at the bottom. That what those plants need to thrive.
You have a beautiful tank and I hope to have one that size one day.

I got the tank for 150 Euros (about 187 USD), the tank came with the heater and the two powerfilters w/canisters, not to mention the lighting and stand. I thought that was a great deal!
Since then, I spent an additional 400 Euros on filters, fish, and plants…and also the five pieces of driftwood (very expensive!). The rocks I got along the Rhine riverbed.

Agreed.

Very nice tank and Great pics.
IMO- its a Green Terrior, and you had mentioned before that you hope it dosn't screw things up later down the road.. Well... Its 50/50..
You should be alright, I used to have a GT that was with more even more aggressive fish, but i got them all at the same time, and they were fine with eachother. So, i think as long as they grow up together, then they should be fine.... But thats just my experince....

Can I ask whats the deal with dither fish? are they somehow meant to reduce the agression..can someone please shed some light on this...?
Great looking setup btw!

LOVE IT! I think that would would have looks awesome with that moon sand, but the light looks great. What kinda sand?
Looks great, but aren't Firemouths from Central America, where there's no Amazon? ;)
johnnycole
10-16-2007, 2:03 AM
Yeah...I just label it my "Amazon" tank for its look, not so much it's inhabitants!
To answer the sand question: it is quartz sand, the same stuff they use here in Germany to make cement, the plants love it!

:iagree: Thanks for the input toby16...I had created another post regarding this and received a lot of input, verifying that they were indeed "Fake" Green Terrors, aka Gold Saums.

Thanks all for the comments...quick question, the number of fish I have, is this optimal for the tank setup?
FireMouths: 3 females and 2 males
Green Terrors: 1 pair
Plecos: 2 (about 3 inches)
Earth Eaters (Geophagus altifrons): 3
T-Bars -Red (Archocentrus Sajica): 3
Personally I don't think I can add anymore fish, especially when these little guys grow up. What is everyone elses opinion on this?
Thanks again for the help!

I agree - those guys will grow to fill the tank nicely. I wouldn't bother replacing the guppies when they disappear either.

How much lighting (wtp) is over that tank?

In response to lighting:
I use two JBL Solar Tropic's; blue for the rear tube (it really brings out the colors in the cichlids!), and white for the front. I got this tank second hand (without the contents), and the previous guy had it set up as a reef tank, so the lighting is great for my plant growth!

is there a certain gallon size to get a tank with a flat top? does the light heat up the water? did the lights come with it?
