It's probably been a month or so since I've posted. I originally bought 2 mollies and sadly one died which is why I posted here to begin with. I now have 3 balloon mollies and had a problem with the biggest one being very aggressive toward the others, but now I know why it was so much bigger.

Less than an hour ago she started swimming vertically and acting funny. I thought something was wrong with her but shortly after I saw a fry fly out of her very quickly and started scouting the tank only to find many fry (10-12) hiding amongst the plants in my tank. Sadly some of them were snacks for the bigger mollies but I managed to save 7 of them and they're in a small bowl with some gravel from the main tank for bacteria and a small trimming of a plant.

Now my question is how do I raise these little fry? Will crushing flakes down to a powder be sufficient for them to eat? How long will it take them to grow? Is a filter necessary or will changing the water every day be enough? Will fish stores typically take fish that you've bred at home? Because I don't think I'll be able to keep them all. My 10g is already fairly stocked with the 3 mollies and ghost shrimp + numerous snails as it is.

yes crushed flakes will be fine, but i would strongly suggest some sort of filtration. www.drsfosterandsmith.com has a "palm filter" for small aquariums that might be an option.. we have a fish store that will take our livebearer babies and feed them to their other fish when we leave the store... we found out and just decided to let them fight it out in the tank with the adults.. some have survived and are adults themselves now.

What I did with my guppy babies until i could get a net was to put them in a clean plastic bowl and secure that to the rim of the adult tank. Use water from the main tank, but floating the bowl will help keep temperature the same. They picked at flakes a little the night they were born, I also fed them a little flour and a little egg yolk. They currently eat baby brine shrimp and powdered tubifex worms.
